Always Expect Persecutions

John 15:20 King James Version

“Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.”

Jesus Christ warned us Saved Christians that if He Himself was persecuted by His own people, we should expect to be persecuted as well.

Why must we expect persecutions? As the Bible says in the previous verses:

John 15:18-19 King James Version

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

The deep rooted hatred for Jesus Christ and Saved Christians comes from the god of this world.

2 Corinthians 4:4 King James Version

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

Who is the god of this world?

John 8:44 King James Version

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

The god of this world is the devil or Satan

Times of Israel Decries 'Escalating Attacks on Christians'

April 4, 2023

Last Friday, Christian Churches in Jerusalem appealed to the government to ensure freedom to worship during Holy Week and Easter in the face of “mounting violence and acts of desecration over the past year,” the newspaper reported.

Jerusalem’s Christian leaders “tell of a deteriorating atmosphere of harassment, apathy from authorities, and a growing fear that incidents of spitting and vandalism could turn into something far darker,” the paper has revealed.

In February, for instance, an American Jewish tourist vandalized a statue of Jesus in the Church of the Flagellation, which marks the second station of the cross in the traditional Via Crucis. The man was part of a “group of Jewish extremists” who were eventually apprehended by the Israel Security Forces (ISF).

These concerns were echoed by the Greek Orthodox Church, which said in a statement: “Terrorist attacks by radical Israeli groups, targeting churches, cemeteries, and Christian properties… have become almost a daily occurrence that evidently increases in intensity during Christian holidays,” said.

Incidents have included the desecration of graves at the Protestant cemetery on Mount Zion, vandalism at the Maronite community center in the northern city of Ma’alot-Tarshiha, and the defacing of Jerusalem’s Armenian community buildings, with graffiti promising “revenge,” “death to Christians,” “death to Arabs and gentiles” and “death to Armenians.”

Terrorists Kill More than 60 Christians in Benue State, Nigeria

April 3, 2023

ABUJA, Nigeria (Morning Star News) – Fulani herdsmen on Saturday (April 1) killed at least seven Christians in Benue state, Nigeria, bringing the total to more than 60 villagers slain in the past month, sources said.

Assailants killed a Christian in an attack on a worship meeting Saturday night (April 1) in Logo County, sources said, after at least six Christians in Apa County were killed earlier in the day, said Ikobi, Apa County resident Sunday Ojo in a text message that day.

“Ikobi village, a Christian community, is currently under attack by Fulani herdsmen,” Ojo said. “Several houses have been razed, while more than six Christians have been killed by the attackers. Christians in Apa Local Government Area need your prayers.”

Many Christians have been displaced by the armed herdsmen. These attacks have forced Christians to abandon their farms. There has been no government intervention in order to stem these attacks.”

In Benue state’s Logo County on Saturday night, Fulani herdsmen invaded a church service at about 9 p.m., killed one Christian, wounded five others and kidnapped the pastor and four other congregation members, sources said.

On March 13, herdsmen also killed more 50 Christians in Kwande County, community leaders said in a statement.

“We write to report recent, sustained terror attacks on our communities over the past 10 days which have resulted in over 50 people dead, several injured, thousands displaced and loss of property and farmlands,” stated Festus Iorkyaa, Eric Tyohemba Udu and Solomon Terfa Jijah of the Turan Development Association (TUDA).

The killings and destruction of properties occur on a daily basis, they said.

Early Rain Christians detained, families forcibly evicted

March 29, 2023

Three members of Early Rain Covenant Church (ERCC) in Chengdu, China, have been detained, and many families have been subject to forced evictions, according to a statement published by the church on 26 March.

On 24 March, police in Wenjiang District in Chengdu placed a deputy deacon of ERCC Jia Xuewei in administrative detention for 14 days. A preacher, Ding Shuqi, and another church member, Shu Qiong, were given the same punishment, also for ‘activities in the name of a banned social organisation’, a week earlier on 17 March.

Also on 17 March, Elder Li Yingqiang and his wife were forcibly taken by Wenjiang police to Deyang, another city in Sichuan province, without being given time to collect their two young children and keys to their rented accommodation.

On 21 March, Xiao Luobiao, another deputy deacon, found that his electricity meter had been stolen overnight. He and his wife Chen Yan were threatened with their belongings being thrown out unless they move out by 24 March. On 25 March, their family car was vandalised, with its tyres and windows damaged and insulting graffiti painted on the body of the vehicle.

In the statement published on 26 March, ERCC cited the experiences of six additional individuals/households who have also faced pressure to move. Mr Xiao’s family and three other ERCC households, who live in the same residential compound called ‘Languang Changdao’ in Shuangliu District, Chengdu, have been subject to particularly violent harassment: ‘The police, community grid and property management etc. have been using every conceivable means... They show a blatant disregard for the law and morality, and display the arrogance of power as well as imperious ignorance.’

A notice posted in a Wechat (China’s largest social media site) group on 24 March also conveys the mass surveillance and social hostility faced by religious communities in the area. In the notice sent by a community grid attendant from the Tongjiang Community in Shuangliu District, Chengdu, flat owners of ‘Languang Changdao’ are warned against letting to tenants who ‘organise illegal activities in the name of religion’. Owners are to take the initiative to break their leases if they realise their tenants are doing that, or they may face legal liability. The ‘unusual circumstances’ that owners should be looking out for include ‘frequent gatherings of people making noise such as reading scriptures, praying and singing songs’.

ERCC described the ‘crazy wave of repression’ the church is currently experiencing in a prayer request dated 19 March, saying all of its preachers had been either detained, forced to leave Chengdu, or placed under surveillance; all of its deacons had been heavily guarded and prevented from leaving their homes to serve at services; and many members had been threatened, intimidated and harassed.

As Saved Christians what do we ought to do amidst these ongoing persecutions?

Matthew 5:44 King James Version

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”

Matthew 10:16 King James Version

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

If we endure these persecutions, God has promised us the Crown of Life

Revelation 2:10 King James Version

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Romans 5:1-3 King James Version

1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
