Becoming Ambassadors for Christ

2 Corinthians 5:20 King James Version

“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.”

What is an Ambassador?

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary an Ambassador is (1) an official envoy, (2) authorized or unofficial representative or messenger.

How to become an Ambassador for Christ?

Let’s look at the preceding verses

2 Corinthians 5:17-19 King James Version

“17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”

Once we received Salvation by Grace through Faith on Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 10:9-10) and His precious blood (Rom. 5:9), we automatically become Ambassadors for Christ.

But what about those who are doing the work of an Ambassador or messenger for Christ but are not saved due to a false Salvation Doctrine? (such as Lordship Salvation)

Matthew 7:22-23 King James Version

22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

It’s important to receive Salvation first and be eternally secured in Heaven or else our works for the Lord are in vain. It is unfortunate that some may have a religious zeal and done more charitable works than a Saved Christian but can still be lost and damned if they did not accept Jesus Christ and His finished work at the Cross for their Salvation.

What are the roles and responsibilities of an Ambassador of Christ?

1. Be Followers of God

Ephesians 5:1-4 King James Version

“1Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. 3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.”

Jesus Christ is also called our Counsellor, so we should always seek His guidance through prayer and reading His word, the King James Bible

Isaiah 9:6 King James Version

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

2. Be Part of a Church

God called us to gather together a solemn assembly

Joel 1:14 King James Version

“14Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,”

We should also follow our Pastors and Preachers in Christ, just as Paul said to the early Christians.

1 Corinthians 11:1 King James Version

1Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

The verse below explains why:

Proverbs 11:14 King James Version

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”

There will be times where we would need a wise counsel from experienced Bible Believers in order to correct ourselves with sound doctrines. This is for our own benefit and safety in order for us to grow and mature as a Saved Bible Believing Christians and Ambassadors for Christ. Also one day we too will give counsel according to the Bible to our dearly beloved.

3. Study the King James Bible

2 Timothy 2:15 King James Version

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Just like any other job training there is a training material or manual on how to do our job correctly, our King James Bible is our manual, we have to read and study it so we know what to do and what message are we supposed to preach.

4. Spread the Gospel

Acts 10:42 King James Version

“And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.”

2 Timothy 4:2 King James Version

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”

Matthew 28:19 King James Version

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”

5. Answer questions about the Faith

1 Peter 3:15 King James Version

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:"

Matthew 10:32-33 King James Version

32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

6. Protect your Testimony

1 Peter 2:12 King James Version

“Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.”

1 Corinthians 10:32 King James Version

“Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:”

It's important that when they see us, they will see the image of Christ in us and are blameless.

1 Corinthians 1:8 King James Version

Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 3:14 King James Version

“Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”

7. Always be Faithful

Proverbs 13:17 King James Version

“A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.”

Hebrews 11:6 King James Version

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

What makes a messenger wicked in the eyes of God?

Galatians 1:9 King James Version

"As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."

We must be faithful to God, and true to His Word, and dispense the right doctrines with humility similar to how Jesus Christ ministered to the people.

Our Compensation as Ambassadors for Christ

Galatians 6:9 King James Version

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Colossians 3:23-24 King James Version “23And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”

Matthew 25:21 King James Version

His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
