1 Peter 4:3-5 King James Version
3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
When we received Salvation, we become born again in Spirit, a new person, our fleshly nature have been separated from our soul and we are taught to live according to God in the spirit.
2 Corinthians 5:17 King James Version
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
So as a Saved Believer in Christ we are expect to abandon our past fleshly and sinful habits, for we have already spent enough time living in sin and constantly rejected Jesus Christ.
As Peter outlined in the verse the characteristics of the Gentiles that Christians should not be associated with once they received Salvation.
1. Lasciviousness - denotes excesses of all kinds of evil. Involving a lack of personal self-restraint, the term pictures sin as an inordinate indulgence of appetites to the extent of violating a sense of public decency.
2. Lusts - carnal appetite; unlawful desire of carnal pleasure, uncleanness and dishonouring their own bodies between themselves (Rom. 1:24) and too much lusts causes homosexuality (Rom. 1:27)
3. Excess of wine or drunkenness – (Prov. 20:1) Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. The Bible says we are to stay sober.
1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Ephesians 5:18 - And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
4. Revellings - excessive and boisterous intemperance and lustful indulgence, also associated with paganistic carnal worship.
5. Banquettings – living in luxury and excess. As Christians we are taught to live life in humility
1 Peter 5:6 - Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
6. Idolatries – worshipping pagan gods, animal, person, sports, things other than God
Other things we must put off
Colossians 3:8-9 King James Version
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
And these are the things we should do
1 Thessalonians 5:14-23 King James Version
14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
16 Rejoice evermore.
17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Quench not the Spirit.
20 Despise not prophesyings.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Continuing to the next verse in 1 Peter 4
1 Peter 4:4 King James Version
"Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:"
Not everyone in your immediate circle will approve and accept the new you, if they are unsaved lost souls they will be in opposition to you, for they are of the world and you are not of the world but part of the body of Christ.
John 15:18-19 King James Version
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
They’re unsaved lost souls for they love the world and not the word of God
1 John 2:15 King James Version
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."
Especially now that we’re heading towards End Times, where they will not heed to sound doctrines and come up things to justify their sinful natures
2 Timothy 4:3 King James Version
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”
They will persecute and at worst may kill you for your faith like the early age Christians, the Inquisition and countries that banned practicing Christianity.
Luke 21:16-17 King James Version
16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.
17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.
There is blessing when you are persecuted, because it counts as a good testimony to the Lord.
Matthew 5:11-12 King James Version
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
The Bible encourages us to keep the faith as Apostle Paul did for there is a reward in the end.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 King James Version
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
And we should not be afraid of those who will oppose and persecute us, for as the verse said, they will be judged by God. We should pray fervently to God to defend us from these people and also to pray for them to be saved also.
2 Thessalonians 3:1-5 King James Version
1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:
2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.
3But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.
5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

1 Peter 3:16 King James Version
"Have a good conscience, that, whereas they speak evil of you as of evildoers, they who falsely accuse may be ashamed by your good manner of life in Christ."
