The Two Edged Sword

Hebrews 4:12 King James Version

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

When we got saved, we are drawn into battle, a spiritual battle

Ephesians 6:12 King James Version

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

As a soldier of Christ, we should put on the whole armor of God

Ephesians 6:11 King James Version

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

These armors consists of

Ephesians 6:13-17 King James Version

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Our only offensive weapon against the devil is the word of God, which is a twoedged sword, and we should be careful in handling it. If we’re not careful we could hurt ourselves by making up false doctrines and if we’re not fed with the word of God daily then our weapon will become dull and ineffective against the enemy. And the most important is we should have the right sword which is the King James Version!

How do we sharpen our sword?

2 Timothy 2:15 King James Version

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

We should be applying Dispensation Doctrine while studying the word of God or else we would be mixing together different doctrines without proper context in the Bible, such as Lordship Salvation, if we rightly divide the Bible, we know what time period we are in, that we are in the Age of Grace and we are saved not by good works but by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). We know which group of people a particular book, chapter and verse refers to such as the book of James which are meant for Tribulation Jews and not us Christians today.

There is also danger of over sharpening your sword. When you over sharpen, the edge being ground away becomes dull again or the edge being too thin and the sword is unable to retain sharpness. Over sharpening will unnecessarily wear away steel on the sword. This is the case of Hyperdispensationalism

Hyperdispensationalism, is the teaching that you can cut or divide the Bible into sections with no overlap, but in Dispensation there’s a gradual transition like the following:

Matthew – going from the Old Testament to the New Testament

Acts – going from Israel to the Church (Gentiles)

Hebrews – going from the Church to the Tribulation

We must be grounded with the right Bible and with the right doctrine, if we don’t we would fail to worship and serve God properly, unable to grow spiritually as a Christian and will be vulnerable to the devil’s attacks and unable to defend ourselves spiritually.

1 Peter 5:8 King James Version

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

Ecclesiastes 10:10 King James Version

“If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.”
